Dutch employment law framework

I am currently working for a UK company and we have a site in the Netherlands.

The framework for their employment law is dramatically different to ours and I need to get a better grip on it.

Does anyone know of any good sources for Dutch employment law information( In english of course!!) Any help appreciated!

  • Dear Melissa

In the dim and distant past when I had 5 European sites to look after, I used the precursor to this:

    www.imercer.com/.../hr-factbook.aspx

However, it is expensive and covers way more than you need if you only have the Netherlands to deal with. Might be worth checking with Mercer if they can do a deal by jurisdiction though? Or could your employment lawyers put you in touch with their Dutch contacts and any guidance notes they may have produced?
  • Also xpert HR has relevant resources?

A good overview is available through L&E Global's site (click on Netherlands on the bottom right part of the page), and a booklet summary is here

In the Netherlands, every company is comes under a the specific national collective agreement for the employment sector - make sure you identify this and any specific "extras" over statute..

For years Eversheds have been running excellent introductory courses on labour law in many countries, this link takes you to the next one one the Netherlands, later this year

  • It depends on how much detail you need and whether or not cost is an issue.

You can try this to start off with:

    www.eurofound.europa.eu/.../netherlands-working-life-country-profile

    Kind regards
