Looking for recommendations for a company volunteering day in London

Hi everyone,

We're looking to organise a company volunteering/community support day in London for around 15 people and would really appreciate some recommendations.

We're flexible on timing, so it could be a full day or just a morning or afternoon.

We're open to pretty much anything that makes a genuine difference, food banks, homelessness charities, environmental projects, schools, community centres, refurbishing spaces, gardening, mentoring, or anything else you've found particularly rewarding.

If you've organised something similar before, I'd really appreciate any recommendations for charities or organisations you've worked with, or any websites that are particularly good for finding these opportunities. We don't mind paying a reasonable fee per person if that's required to help cover costs or support the charity.

We're completely new to organising this kind of day, so any advice or lessons learned about planning a successful company volunteering day would be really helpful too.

Thanks in advance!

  • We held a very successful volunteering day at the Stepney City Farm last year. A lovely place to volunteer and they can take large groups, and they do switch up the volunteering activities through the day to keep everyone engaged.

  • There was a great volunteering company at Festival of Work. https://www.beonhand.co.uk/ which I was intrigued by.

It might also be a good opportunity to think is there a local charity in the area you can reach out to or partner with for longer than a day, some clients I've worked with pick a charity selected from staff recommendations to get engagement and buy in and change it annually.

I like to think about how it aligns with company purpose and values, you might get something that links to what you do, and also something that might work as a team building opportunity or a chance to learn new skills. Other things I've come across - reading books with kids, supporting something like Migrateful - where you get to learn about different cultures and food. There's so much unpaid work that is out there to do it's hard to make a choice.

  • Hello David,

I have done a team volunteering day with Fareshare (now called Felix) who re-distribute surplus supermarket & supplier food to those that need it. It was a great day, felt really productive and for a brilliant charity. They have website but I can also put you in touch with my contact there who might be able to help?

Best of luck with the search,
