Given that this does get asked quite a bit on our Student Community, I thought I'd signpost this CIPD guide to help you prepare for writing those inevitable essays.

  • Thanks Steve that is helpful. However, I have found short essay writing a challenge especially when the question has two or more questions and the word limit for each question is 100 or 250 words. Each question requires an introduction to set the scene, that can take 15 words, without even starting answering the question, followed by answering the main part with pros/cons added in, wrapping it off with a clear cut summary. Sounds easy but I have spent a lot of my time taking out 'if, to and and' to fit it into the word count. There is 10% extra word count, which is massively helpful, I guess it really is an art of fitting it all in within a strict word count.
