Level 5, Unit 1 - Developing Professional Practice

Hi, I'm just starting Level 5 and so overwhelmed! I've been in HR for a number of years, and away from studying for even longer!! I just don't know where to start. Any tips? I'm studying with ICS, and any guidance on layout would be appreciated.

I am feeling exactly the same so you are not on your own. I am studying with AVADO. Any tips on where to start and how to lay out a word e-profile for Unit 1 assessment would be gratefully received.

Hi Maureen,

Apologies, if some fellow members have found my post abusive as I have neither written in any post nor read any posts in past. I haven't studied in last 20 years and don't understand where to start. I have found a courage to start my studies all over again with CIPD. I am struggling where to start my assignments, where to look for resources, which books to read etc. I neither have any classroom sessions nor a person I can speak to. I am have started with ICS Learn. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I did not find anything abusive in your post. I really suggest that you contact your provider as a matter of urgency. I am sure they will help you.

I completed my level 5 around 1 year ago and if you are looking for reading materials I found the following books useful when completing my assignments and still make reference to them now. You can buy these books from the CIPD Bookstore which I believe is Kogan Page

Thank you for your advice. I got in touch with ICS and also my tutor. I'am struggling to start my formative assessment at the moment. If there was a template or something similar, that would help me to kick start, that would be great. Would you know where I could find this?

I am not aware of any templates but I would recommend that you look at the learning outcomes and the assessment criteria for each learning outcome.

Hope you are well.
I know its been a while, I have been extremely busy with full time shift work, family, etc and I some how tried to write up my first assignment DVP01, I sent this to my tutor and I was told, all is going good, just need to cut down on my words. Then I got in touch with one of the Associate CIPD member for some feedback about my assessment and I was advised by them that my assignment is more of theory and no real life examples. I was advised by the fellow member to cut down lot of theory and write more examples. I am confused, because when I sent to my tutor he mentioned all is good to go.

Also, I have few questions if you anyone could answer:
1. Referencing to CIPD Map, I have to pick 3 elements, break down each element and band - are the elements the outer circle in the map? the 8 behaviours, and breaking down each element - is it the 10 professional areas?
2. Task 2 - Conflict resolution 1 & 2, should i give an example
3. Task 3 - Problem solving skills 1 & 2, Persuading, negotiating and Influencing - all examples required?

1. We are encouraging people to look at the new Profession Map ICS may view this differently so please contact them.
2. Conflict resolution it is always good to quote the theoretical models and then reflect on how you have or have not applied them. It is always good to reflect on your current practices so that you have a chance to improve.
3. Yes, if you think about this we are doing this all the time.
