CIPD Level 5 - Unit 1

Hi, I have recently started studying CIPD Level 5, and I am stuck with Unit 1. Can someone please assist me with what I should include in the first assignment as I feel like I’m a bit all over the place currently. I am currently studying with ICS Learn. Thank you for your support in advance

  • Hi Rasa,

I was on here looking for help with unit 2 (which I skipped and have now had to come back to!) when I saw your message. Here is my contents page from my summative assignment for unit 1 - I am also studying with ICS. I'm slow though so I should warn you this is from 2018, it might have changed!

For the elements in 1.4 use the CIPD profession map tool to identify elements to discuss - use ones you feel show a sliding scale of understanding e.g. you know nothing about talent planning but have lots of experience in org design.

    Good luck!

    1. Activity One - What does it mean to be an HR professional?
    1.1. Defining HR professionalism
    1.2. Code of conduct
    1.3. The thinking performer
    1.4. CIPD Profession map
1.4.1. Element 1 – Resource and talent planning
    1.4.2. Element 2 – Organisation design
    1.4.3. Element 3 – Learning and development
    1.4.4. Conclusion
    2. Activity TwoGroup dynamics and conflict resolution
2.1. What makes an effective Team?
    2.2. Belbin’s Team roles
    2.3. Conflict resolution – Thomas-Kilmann Instrument
    2.4. Conflict resolution – Mediation
    3. Activity Three – Project management
    3.1. Project overview
3.2. Project management and problem solving techniques
    3.3. Project outcome
    4. Activity Four – Self-assessment and PDP
    4.1. Self-assessment
    4.2. Personal development plan
    4.3. PDP monitoring

This has been so helpful! Thank you

    Hi Jodie,
What kind of actions did you include for 1.4.1/2/3 is order to strengthen the band or move to the next one? I'm struggling a bit with how to justify my banding and how to explain I will move forward
  • In reply to Rosa:

    Hi Rosa,

I don't think you need to be too specific. I just talked a bit about my experience and then listed some of the areas the map told me to work on. Where I evaluated an area I had little experience in I picked a couple of gaps that I said I would focus on as they would be the easiest to achieve in my current role.
  • In reply to Jodie:

Each area was only abouy 100 words so you can't write too much. Good luck!
  • In reply to Jodie:

    Hi Jodie,

Can please elaborate a bit on 1.4 i mean how to chose elements n all..

that would be of great help.

    Thanks
  • In reply to Ritika:

    Hi Ritika,
Have you used the profession map on the CIPD website? www.cipd.co.uk/.../default.html
This let's you answer questions to complete a self evaluation and then you can select your areas. For instance I chose resourcing because I have experience in it to build upon, org development because I have no experience so it would be completely new to me, and Learning and Development because it's an area of interest that overlapped with my job at the time.

Hope this helps, best of luck,
    Jodie

    Hi Jodie,
Thanks for this. I am struggling with 4.1 at the moment. and more specifically with "Undertake a self assessment against the L&D specialist knowledge area of the CIPD 2018 Map"
Did you self assess against all areas of L&D at the associate level?
  • In reply to Argyro:

    Hello,
It sounds as though your assignment is a little different to mine - are you doing the L&d qualification?
    Jodie
  • In reply to Jodie:

    Hi Jodie,
Yes I am doing Level 5 in L&D. I have to use the 2018 CIPD professional map. Not sure if you had to use the same?
  • In reply to Argyro:

    Hi Argyo,
Sorry, I was doing the HRM course and had to use the older version of the profession map I think. Sounds as though you need to look at each element under the L&D heading and assess yourself, you could use all levels to decide where your current skills sit for each element. BUT I'm probably not the best person to ask I'm afraid!
    Good luck,
    Jodie
  • In reply to Jodie:

    Hi Jodie,
No problem. Many thanks for replying. I am just going to contact my tutor. Hopefully they will help.
    Thanks
