Moving back into HR from a role in anti-money laundering...

I am currently working as a Financial Crime & Compliance specialist for one of the non-EEA financial institutions in London. I have  over 5 years of experience working in projects associated to Anti Money Laundering. I have always wanted to return into HR after university following my brief one year working in an HR role for two multinational companies.

I enrolled myself to a CIPD Level 5 course few years back with the hope that I could find an HR related role (in consulting) however I did not have the luck. After staying in the same line of work for a few years, I wonder if I still have the opportunity to find a role in HR Consulting (and most recently was thinking of going into Diversity & Inclusion role). I have analysed the skills that I can offer in an HR related role however, I am not sure what kind of relevant transferable skills and knowledge can I offer. I’m in my early 30’s and afraid that I may lose my confidence in my career.

  • Certainly it’s difficult but people do change careers. There are lots of threads so worth searching.

    My main concern would be your desire to go into consulting. You have neither the skills or experience to succcessfully cobsult in HR yet and I would focus on getting these in an operational role before pushing g yourself as a “consultant”.
