Which CIPD course & transition from L&D to a generalist HR role

Hi all, I have really enjoyed reading all of your discussions and would like some advice. I graduated 1 year ago with a first class degree in Business Management and began working in a Learning and Development Admin role. I am looking to work in a HR generalist role and I am unsure whether to begin studying Level 3 CIPD and then Level 7? Or Level 5 and then Level 7? I am worried that if I jump straight into a Level 7 course I will be "overqualified" for a entry level role. Also, I am unsure of how long to stay in the L&D role. Any thoughts/suggestions are welcome! Thanks, Louise

    I've got a little HR experience, and I'm studying for the CIPD Level 5 in HRM. It's certainly tough, but perhaps with your background it might be okay? However, it's more aimed at people with generalist experience than with specific experience.

    You're almost going a little backwards, as most people would move from generalist to specialist. May I ask why you want to move out of L&D?

    I don't know much about Level 7, apart from it's a big course and I believe you would need some other CIPD qual/very significant experience.

    I will try and be a bit more helpful once there's a bit more info!

    Hi Sam,

    Thanks very much for your response - I will certainly look into Level 5.

    I got in to L&D just to get my foot in the door and always had the intention to move into Generalist HR roles in the future. I can see myself progressing more in a generalist role and I don't particularly  want to facilitate training myself.
