And once you have found relevant cases from citations in journal articles etc, the British and Irish Legal Information website is where you can look them up to see what was actually said: www.bailii.org/.../
Just started Employment Law too! I am struggling with the core principles of employment law. Did you found that information? I have the latest Employment Law book from CIPD but still not confident...Any ideas?

I'm afraid of missing something. Common sense tell me that some core principles are non-discrimination, employment rights, fair dismissal, minimal wage, health and safety, TUPE, family friendly employment law and GRPD.
Definitely Civil and Criminal law is needed when we talk about employment law. They underpin the core principles itself, as well as the other legislation/Acts.
That's how I am approaching this topic, cover the principles by explaining what laws exists and were created to that purpose.
