Pre Employment Screening Checks

Hello,

I am looking into pre employment screening checks for our company and the directors are divided on what pre employment screening checks to do. Depending on the role we have been advised of the below checks:

ID Check
Right to Work
Professional/Technical Membership References
Basic Criminal Record Check
Occupation History (5 yrs)
Sanctions
FCA
Media Search
Directorship Search
Adverse Financial Check
Education/Higher Education Checks
Employment References

If anyone works in a tech business, would you mind sharing what checks you do?

Thank you!

  • I used to work for an IT consultancy, we used HireRight then Onfido for these checks.

ID / right to work in UK are really prerequisites, and then very much dictated by role, eg if there's likely to be unsupervised contact with under 18s / vulnerable adults or it's otherewise necessary, DBS checking, and of course employment history.

No need IMHO to pay for third party checking agents usually, although that said I've used specialist agents (usually retired senior police detectives etc) on a few occasions where we needed to be sure and / or send a message to the person involved that all possible stones would be uplifted and closely examined underneath.

It's really horses for courses and following up on anything that doesn't quite ring true and can't really see that it's useful to be any more prescriptive than just that.
