Workplace Lottery Syndicate

Happy New Year,

I hope you are all okay. I wonder if you can help me, I have been approached by a colleague who has asked can they set up a Workplace Lottery Syndicate. I have checked through our plocies and there is nothing in them that help with this question.

I have initially advised the employee to speak with their Line Director (who is our Group FD) but I know it will revert back to me.

Any advice would be greatly apprecaited.

    My initial thought is that if they want to do a lottery syndicate amongst themselves they can, but it would be between them and have absolutely nothing to do with work.

    If you don't have a policy explicitly saying it cant be done (which we don't have either), and they are setting it up as a non work related activity, i cant really see a problem.

    I would just make it clear that it is a non work related activity, and that work related resources shouldn't be used to facilitate it, time/email etc.

    The chances of them all winning and leaving work could be some what of an issue haha, but cant see that happening.

    Perhaps some one else will say otherwise but that's my initial thoughts.

    Thank you, my colleague has done some further research and I ahve my One to One with the Group FD today so I will also check with them.
