MCIPD Experience Assessment

Hello community.

I have just registered to start my experience assessment for MCIPD and was wondering if anyone else was just starting the process as well. It would be great to buddy up and share thoughts about the process.

I’m very much a non standard HR professional, I used to work as an engineer and transitioned into HR via data, reporting and systems, later working on culture change, employee insights and now reward. I’m a commercially aware mathematics graduate with 9 years’ experience in HR across a range of industries.

It would be great to connect with others going through the same process (and happy to connect with others who have already done so).

Hi Alison. I'm 11 days in now and I feel like I'm making good progress. I've completed my Self Assessment, I've nominated my colleagues for the Colleague Assessment and I am now on with the Impact Report, though only just started it really. I have my professional discussion scheduled as well.

I have just found out about this route of getting Chartered membership and have decided to go down this route. Andrew, I too have entered HR via a non conventional route and would love to chat to you about this, as I was slightly daunted about completing this having not had decades of experience in the HR arena and worked at senior levels in other areas prior to moving.
Could I PM you? I would love to buddy up through his process with you both.

Hi Andrew, Clare and Alison,

Just came across these posts. I'm well into the EA now, with a deadline of April 23. I've been delivering L&D solutions for years but usually in an IT context, not pure HR, and therefore finding it rather daunting. Looks like we're all in a similar position!

Hi Tim.

My deadline is Tuesday next week. I'm taking tomorrow off work to finish my Case Study (which is currently well over 5000 words!) I've completed all of the other elements though. I have more of a systems context as well, though also a reasonable amount of culture change and engagement, so finding good examples for a few elements has been a bit harder than I perhaps expected, but I've made it work I think!

Hi Tim.

Just completed my case study now. I was up to 5900 words at one point but I've edited down and am within the word limit now! I did have it at exactly 5000 words at one point, but figured that would make me look like a bit of a smart-a$$ so I kept editing for a while :-)

Do keep us posted on how you get on and any hints and tips you have got from going through the process, I think you are slightly ahead of the rest of us.

well done! I am still doing the self assessment and dreading the case study as I dont have a traditional HR background and am worried my expertise will be too narrow. Glad you made it work!

My main hints and tips so far are to make sure you set aside sufficient time. All of the stages have taken slightly longer than I expected and have involved more thinking time! I've worked most days across the full 8 weeks on this, culminating in a full day off work to finish off the case study.

The other main hint would be to make sure your nominees doing the colleague assessment are on top of things, it takes stress out of the process if you know the bits you cannot control are done early.

I've kept mine approach fairly narrow though Alison. I think the idea is that you can have a response that starts wide and then narrows to your specialism. I hope so anyway because that's what I've done!
