Recruitment in Ireland

Hi all

I work for a company based in England, who are looking to recruit an Engineer based in the Republic of Ireland. I don't really want to go down the agency route as I'd like to keep costs down but have no experience of recruiting in this area. I've done some research online, but would appreciate any local knowledge regarding job boards/ other avenues to consider? The role is a Service Engineer within the boiler industry.

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Claire
Just to be clear for us, can you clarify whhere the person is going to work?
David's reply seems to be for the hypothesis of a person currently in the Republic coming to work in the UK, but I get the impression from your post that they might in fact be expected to work in the Republic of Ireland.
  • Hi Ray- you've read it correctly- we are looking for someone to be actually based over n Ireland- we have an increasing amount of work over there and sending an engineer over for each job is becoming untenable. We also know having someone based there would bring in even more work.
To be honest though, I'd not really given much consideration beyond the recruitment issue but have realised that was a little short sighted from reading David's comments below regarding tax/ employment law. Any suggestions where I could go for more info/ support on employing in the Republic of Ireland would be gratefully received!
    Thanks all
  • HI Claire
If its Northern Ireland that is part of UK so will be straight forward if it ROI then a bit different as others have said. The CIPD do have a site for ROI. You could also employee someone who works in ROI but lives in NI so that will also have a few issues and vice versa.
I have staff both in NI and ROI and to be honest I have found the only way to get staff is via an agency. People seem to not be bothered to go and look but will leave a cv with an agency. Just my experience here
    Good luck
    Tracey
