Contract of Employment USA

Hi all

I've recently joined a SME with a small team in the USA, Utah to be precise. 

I am about to make an offer of employment to a US national and am in need of a contract template.

HR Inform doesn't have such a thing and I wonder if anyone can signpost me / share something with me?

I understand fully that state laws vary hugely and there is no one-size-fits-all but a basic contract would be a good place to start.

Any help is much appreciated!

    Hi Nikki

    It's probably going to be essential to engage the services of a locally-based adviser in order to draw up a viable contract of employment. There will be a cost, but not getting all aspects of this arrangement (not just the contract of employment) right and legally-compliant could be vastly more costly

    Contracts aren't standard in the US. Unless the state mandates them (which I don't think Utah does), or there is a union, it's quite normal not to have a formal written contract of employment. It of course doesn't mean you can't have them, but makes it especially important to take David's approach of getting local legal advice.

    I recommend r/humanresources on Reddit, which is an international HR community but with a strong US basis, specifically for HR professionals and well moderated. You likely to find someone who'll help you out with something from UT itself.

    You may also like the r/AskHR subreddit, where posts are tagged [UT] for Utah-related items. Lots of good reading to get up to speed on local HR culture.

    Hi,

    We used to employ US based employees, they were based in different states and as such, laws relating to their employment differed from one to the next. I strongly agree with David, seek advice to ensure everything is correct.
