“Have your say on the snapshot of the people profession”

We’re inviting you to take part in the CIPD’s annual survey on the people profession – a key opportunity for HR and people professionals* to share their perspectives. Your input will help us understand the trends shaping people practice today, the challenges and priorities you face, and how you feel about your career and working life as the world of work continues to evolve.

This research will plays a vital role in informing CIPD policy, thought leadership and practical support for the profession. The findings will be published later this year, providing a clear, evidence-based snapshot of the people profession and amplifying the voice of practitioners like you.

The survey is now live https://www.cipdinsights.co.uk/oa/6dd683 and will be open until 8th June 2026.

* Suitable respondents must be currently working in an HR/people function, not just have HR responsibilities as part of their role. All specialisms with the people profession are welcome to complete the survey as well as independent HR consultants.

  • Thanks Mark, I've messaged about this in the CIPD LinkedIn community. The first gateway question was the stumbling block for me, one I hope can be fixed for me and others who are not vendors or suppliers but CIPD members who work independently and run their own businesses. I wanted to share this with my community so CIPD members there could have their say but I don't know how to guide them so they can complete it and not get barred by getting the first question wrong, which is what I did when I clicked 'other'. Fingers crossed this can be acknowledged. Thank you for listening.

  • Hello    I will pass this on to the relevant team.

  • Just to echo the point made by Sharon, I also ticked the 'other' box and was promptly removed from the survey.

  • Hello Sharon, thank you for raising this point.

I believe the question you are referring to asks about your work status, which isn’t intended to filter out independents or consultants. Its purpose is to filter out those who aren’t currently working as we need to ensure we are reaching respondents who are currently working within the profession. If the individual is working, they should choose one of the first three options: working full time, or part-time (8-29 hrs), or part-time (less than 8 hours).

Later in the survey, there's another question that captures your job roles within the profession that will allow independents and consultants to chose the appropriate option for them.

Hope that helps. Please do share with your community, that would be very appreciated.

Rebecca (Senior Policy and Practice adviser at the CIPD)

  • Hi Steven,

Thank you for your comment. Please see my response below.

  • Hi Rebecca, it was the second question about job titles which kicked me out.  I clicked 'other' then typed in HR Consultant and this is when I was taken to the CIPD home page

  • So I had a similar but different experience to those noted by colleagues below. Although I chose the appropriate work pattern for me (well, nearly, I am part time but I work 30 hours, I'm not sure why part time is capped at 29), I ticked "other" and wrote in "HR and Volunteering", which is accurate for me and therefore was unable to complete the survey...

  • Hi Gemma,

Thank you for your comment and sorry to hear you haven't been able to complete the survey. Our inclusion criteria is tighter this year to ensure we reach HR/people professionals working within the profession- whether that's in people teams or independently. So if you do work in HR you should be able to complete the survey. If you'd like to try again, please chose the option relating to HR, rather than other, to take you through to the rest of the survey.

Grateful for your participation in our survey.

    Rebecca

  • Got kicked out again.  This time I made it to the size of my organisation, apparently a single person business will lead to the end of the survey.
